The 3M E-A-R Optime alert system is used in combination with the 3M Optime sound check meter to provide a complete solution for identifying the noise exposure level, and selecting the right hearing protection product for employees exposed to hazardous noise levels.
The 3M E-A-R Optime alert system employs a simple, logically coloured classification to make the selection process easy. When the noise exposure level is checked, an icon will indicate the required class of hearing protection. The company can then select from a whole range of hearing protection products featuring the icon.
The E-A-R Optime sound check meter that complements the Optime alert system establishes the correct colour code to follow.
Method for identifying noise level and selecting a product
- Place the Optime sound check meter as close to the work area as possible for a full shift
- The meter measures the sound level and calculates an 8-hour time weighted average
- The symbol lights up to the corresponding noise level as per the Optime classification
- Match the Optime Classification to a product on the Hearing Protector Selection Chart
