Problems with interfering substances can occur when measuring free chlorine via DPD substances. The interference of manganese is instantaneous and not distinguishable from free chlorine unless the analyst knows the amount and compensates for it.
Chloramine interference is dependant on the type, level and temperature, and their presence is only noted as a slow, steadily increasing free chlorine value.
