Plastics machinery specialist Krauss Maffei Extrusion of Munich, Germany has recently installed a complete WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) direct extrusion line for Oceplast, a leading French manufacturer of various WPC decking profiles.
Designed for the processing of extra wide profiles, the extremely compact line consists of a KMD 75-32/WPC twin screw extruder, a calibration table, haul-off/saw combination and a tilting table. Specifically made for the customer’s requirements, the line has a maximum output of up to 200kg/hr.
Krauss Maffei’s twin screw extruder has a high wear resistance rate with the screws featuring tungsten carbide armour plating while the barrels are lined with a bi-metal bushing. Michael Finkenzeller, Krauss Maffei’s WPC product manager explains that wear resistance is very important, especially in WPC processing, since this is the only way to achieve the machine service life demanded by processors and minimise downtime and maintenance costs.
Key features of the WPC direct extrusion line:
- Single-step process permits direct metering of the two components: wood and PVC
- 2-component gravimetric system transports wood flour and PVC dryblend into a dynamic mixer to feed the mixture directly into the extruder
- Eliminates need for a complex compounding process using a heating-cooling mixer, saving production space and energy
