Krauss Maffei Extrusion of Munich, Germany, represented in Oceania by HBM Packaging & Plastics Technologies , are chosen by Netherlands pipe manufacturer, Wavin Hardenberg, to supply a complete QuickSwitch line, for the production of PVC pipes.
The QuickSwitch line allows for dimension change on the fly, without stopping production and generates cost savings.
The QuickSwitch line installed with Wavin Hardenberg comprises of a KMD 90-36/R twin screw extruder, a KM-PK 23 QS QuickSwitch pipehead and a KM-KK 160 QS QuickSwitch calibration basket.
The whole line, including the complete QuickSwitch adapted downstream, is controlled by the QuickSwitch system control.
Wavin Hardenberg use the QuickSwitch line to produce compact PVC pipes, including pressure pipes, non-pressure pipes and gas pipes. The QuickSwitch line configured for Wavin Hardenberg also incorporates ultrasonic wall-thickness measurement and thermal pipehead centring.
Wavin Hardenberg use the QuickSwitch capability feature of manufacturing pipes with thicker walls in the socket zone, which is essential for pressure pipe.
There is a global trend in the pipe sector for short order lead times and small batch sizes, which previously would have required stopping the line, resetting the line components and restarting the line.
With QuickSwitch line, pipe dimensions (diameter and wall section) are changed during production runs at the touch of a button. All the parameters for each pipe dimension are stored with the line control.
