World-leading plastics processing machinery manufacturer Krauss Maffei of Munich, Germany celebrated the sale of their 100th GX series machine recently and also introduced two new models to the top end of the range. The GX series injection moulding machines are particularly suited for manufacturers who produce small parts or parts using moulds that need to be changed frequently.

The sale of the 100th machine comes less than 12 months following the introduction of the series and sets a new sales record for Krauss Maffei. The 100th machine was installed for Mahle, a Brazilian automotive parts manufacturer specialising in automotive intake manifolds and flex fuel filters at their plant in Sao Paolo.

Krauss Maffei’s GX 650-4300 featuring a 6500kN clamping force is being used to manufacture valve command covers for automobiles. The GX series’ precise injection and plasticising unit makes it ideally suited for the process-stable production of sophisticated parts, according to Marko Zorn, Account Manager for Krauss Maffei.

Krauss Maffei has also recently added two new models to the top end of their energy efficient GX series injection moulding machines featuring clamping forces of 750T and 900T.

The GX 900-8100 machine was recently on display at the K 2013 Show in Germany. Equipped with two LRX 250 HS linear robots for demoulding and depositing of parts, the machine was enhanced with a fully automatic mould-changing system that completed a shot-to-shot mould changeover in less than three minutes including the robot pickup head.

The new GX machine was able to demonstrate its very fast dual platen clamping unit, efficient drive technology, proven plasticizing unit and perfectly coordinated automation system while producing transport crates made of polypropylene. One of the crates had a shot weight of 380g and a cycle time of 10 seconds, while the other had a shot weight of 341g and a cycle time of 7 seconds.

The modular GX series allows the clamping unit, injection unit and drive module to be configured individually to implement individual customer requirements. An MC6 19-inch touch screen control system provides clear and simple operation with a SplitScreen, ProcessDesigner, automation/robotics interface and Eco Function allowing energy optimisation settings at the touch of a button.
