Cinpres Gas Injection of Cheshire, England has entered into an agreement with the R&D factory UK to commercialise a new technology for physical foaming of injection moulded parts. Cinpres is a global leader in gas and water injection solutions for plastic injection moulding.

The Streamoulding system consists of a Streamoulding control unit and nozzle for the water foaming of polymers in the injection moulding process. The Streamoulding controller interfaces with the moulding machine with a signal at the start of the polymer injection process. The controller manages the precise timing (to 0.01sec) and the necessary heat compensation functions required for the process.

The material in the hopper and barrel remain virgin and the process only requires tap water as the blowing agent. The foam is produced in the nozzle one shot at a time and only while the machine is operational. It works with existing moulds and can be used on a wide variety of materials. Both amorphous and semi-crystalline materials can be processed with the Streamoulding technology producing effective foaming for thin and thick wall sections.

Trials of the Streamoulding system show up to 40% reduction in density and up to 50% energy saving.
