Desalination plants remove salt from seawater then discharge the highly saline water back into the local environment.
To ensure water quality conditions are not adversely affected in these often pristine waterways, monitoring programs involving the use of floating buoys to continuously monitor environmental conditions have been implemented.
Greenspan has designed and commissioned a range of waterway monitoring programs, including the recent major oceanographic monitoring program for the new Perth desalination plant.
- 3 x Floating Buoys each equipped with
- Multiple salinity, temp and oxygen sensors
- Wind speed and direction
- Current velocity and direction
- Data logger and solar power
- Telemetry and alarm system
The System was successfully commissioned in July 2006. Data from approx 15 sensors from each Buoy is recorded every 5 minutes and sent to a shore based control centre for analysis and display.
