Getex  provided OHS and environmental management services during an Underground Storage Tank (UST) decommissioning and removal project at Armidale. The project involved the decommissioning and removal of numerous USTs and associated pipeline infrastructure from a sensitive area surrounding an operating shopping complex.

Over the course of the project period, Getex provided environmental and OHS supervision or management of the project which included:

  • The development of UST safe removal procedures
  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for all contractors associated with the works
  • Selection and safe management of UST residue pump out and disposal techniques
  • Continual atmospheric monitoring for potentially toxic and explosive gases within and surrounding work areas
  • Routine integrity inspections of environmental, erosion and sedimentation controls to ensure prevention of possible contaminant migration while the stockpiled soils and open excavation pits remained on site during the project
  • UST clearance atmospheric testing to allow safe handling and transport of the UST and associated infrastructure
  • Environmental testing and analysis of residual soils for possible ground contamination present after UST removal and
  • Waste classification reports for appropriate disposal of contaminated soil surrounding the UST excavation areas
