The benefit of using Cellophane over the man made polymers, which are largely derived from petroleum, is that it is made from a thin transparent sheet of regenerated naturally occurring cellulose making it 100% biodegradable, and an environmentally friendly plastic type bag. Its low permeability to air, oils and greases, and bacteria makes it particularly useful for food packaging.
