Sandy Gray and Elizabeth Lewis-Gray of Gekko Systems were this month announced as winners of the Technology, Communications, E-Commerce & Life Sciences section in the Southern Region Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards held at Melbourne's Sofitel Hotel on September 1.
As the first and only truly global award of its kind, Entrepreneur Of The Year celebrates entrepreneurs who build and lead successful and dynamic businesses, recognising them through regional, national and global award programs in over 100 cities and more than 40 countries.
The international recognition of the awards positions winners as world-class entrepreneurs and provides a benchmark for entrepreneurial excellence. Winners are much-admired leaders in their industries and important role models.
Today Gekko mineral recovery systems are helping to improve the environmental and economic performance of mines operated by some of the biggest names in the business including De Beers, Anglo-Gold, Gold Fields, Barrick and Placer Dome. They provide gravity separation and intensive leach systems in gold, sulphides, native copper, diamonds, garnets, slags, tantalum and tin mines.
In selecting Gekko Systems, the judges commented "Elizabeth and Sandy are impressive in that they have come up with a incredibly innovate offering by combining their abilities to invent a product, produce it and then create a business to distribute and sell it globally. Gekko Systems has created a global niche business, which is not an easy thing to do from regional Victoria. They have a strong international strategy for growth in both the short and long term."
The Southern Region winners will now go on, with winners from four other regions, to vie for the national Entrepreneur Of The Year titles which take place in Sydney in November this year.
Launched in 2001, the Australian Entrepreneur Of The Year award program is conducted in five regions with regional winners progressing to the national awards.
