Gates Australia presents the BlackGold MegaShield 5000 BOP hose designed to meet the powerful application needs of BOP systems.

An offshore rig producing 100,000 barrels of oil and 58 million cubic feet of natural gas per day can cost hundreds of thousands per hour in lost production when a critical component such as a blow out preventer (BOP) hose fails.

Every component of a BOP control system is critical to the safety of workers, equipment and the environment. 

The Gates line of BlackGold MegaShield 5000 BOP hoses is rated for 5,000psi (350Bar) constant working pressure in all sizes from ¼ inch through 2 inches (6.3mm – 51.0mm). Designed for the extreme, erratic pressures experienced in BOP control systems, the fire resistant hose remains flexible through extremes of temperature for easier handling, and the abrasion-resistant cover stands up to rough treatment. Anti-static and durable, Gates BOP hoses are built for a long, usable life in high performance BOP applications.

Gates BlackGold MegaShield 5000 blowout preventer hoses have been designed, built, and tested to meet API 16D specifications and Lloyd’s 1000/499 fire test – 5 minutes at 7000°C. Gates’ fire resistant BOP assemblies have been certified by Lloyd’s Registry.

Gates’ BOP hose is lighter, more flexible, and less costly than stainless steel armoured hoses while offering equal fire resistance. The greater flexibility makes hoses easier to route and inspect.

If there is a requirement for a replacement hose on short notice, Gates certified BlackGold assemblers can quickly build an assembly to the specific length requirements. Couplings can be crimped, the assembly tested, and the hose shipped within hours of the order being placed. The hose far exceeds the Gates standard for coupling pull-of and burst pressure tests for maximum assurance of safety and performance.
