GAMMA Solutions has released the Intermec IP4 Intellitag portable RFID reader.
This accessory handle attaches to the popular Intermec 700 Series mobile computer and gives users a high performance mobile RFID solution.
According to Paul Pleming, Southern Sales Manager (Gamma Solutions), the introduction of RFID to an organisation will be achieved by staged implementation as suppliers, customers and internal systems progressively move from barcodes to RFID tags.
Paul Pleming commented, large companies had the clout to specify a universal date for adoption of RFID but most organisations would move to RFID over a period of time. Pleming believes the new Intermec IP4 Intellitag Portable RFID reader fits the need for dual technology compatibility.
Intermec's IP4 Intellitag reader combines the power of a handheld mobile computing device with PAN, LAN and WAN radios, as well as a multi-protocol RFID radio that can be used worldwide.
Intermec RFID readers are the first to be compatible with the Gen 2 and upcoming ISO18000-6c RFID tags. The combined unit will incorporate all the software, security, communication and rugged nature of the Intermec 761, 751 and 741 Series of mobile data collection units.
It will fit the existing commanding profile the Intermec 700 series has established in the barcode scanning area.
Paul Pleming says a key benefit was the protection of a planned investment. Whilst RFID may not currently feature in a system, the move to adopt
RFID is accelerating. By ensuring the compatibility of new equipment with
RFID, Pleming says the investment is immune from obsolescence based around introduction of RFID technology.
