FOOD and beverage manufacturers are set to benefit from a new Sydney-based eCommerce and supply chain management training facility, according to GS1 Australia .
The second Supply Chain Knowledge Centre (SCKC), developed by GS1 Australia, was designed as a hands-on interactive introduction to eCommerce tools and supply chain management practices.
The biggest struggle for GS1 Australia in recent years has been encouraging companies to innovate and adopt the GS1 system.
GS1 Australia CEO Maria Palazzolo explained most businesses will not need total overhauls, rather, the key to implementing the new technology is to gradually integrate with existing practices.
Updating technology used in receiving goods is a good place to start, according to Palazzolo, who said the GS1 message has remained unchanged in Australia for 25 years.
The simulator challenges participants to deal with business issues involving quality, productivity, cost and customer service as a team.
Palazzolo said training is vital to demonstrate the importance of understanding globally recognised standards such as bar codes, electronic business messaging, data synchronisation, and EPC for RFID-based identification.
The SCKC training simulator lets businesses test alternative supply chain management strategies, optimise operational performance, and train personnel, without the risks and costs associated with real world experiments.
Woolworths and Coles Myer contributed financially to the $1.5 million investment, which according to Palazzolo, will bring immediate benefits to companies adopting the GS1 system.
