GS1 Australia has announced the launch of a new website that features comprehensive information related to the company’s new GS1 DataBar bar code technology.

Detailed information about GS1 DataBar can be found on the new site, along with:

  • a list of compatible scanners
  • a readiness checklist; and
  • implementation toolkits for retailers and manufacturers.
General Manager for Standards Development at GS1 Australia, Sue Schmid, says that anyone working in the supply chain will need to familiarise themselves with the new bar code technology.

“While GS1 DataBar is already in limited use, from 2014 it will be an open, global standard - just like existing EAN/UPC Bar Codes. This means manufacturers will be able to use it on any product intended for Point-of-Sale, with the expectation that it will be scanned successfully by retailers everywhere,” she explains.
