GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms broaden appeal of ATCA, MicroTCA with Telum 3001

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms  have announced the Telum 3001 Graphics Adapter AdvancedMC. The Telum 3001 is designed to deliver graphics performance and functionality than has previously been available for MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA. The Telum 3001 includes features such as provision for dual digital and analogue displays, high resolutions and support for ‘ganged’ (configuring multiple graphics cards on the same platform) operation, giving great performance.

Telum 3001 brings advanced 2D, 3D and multimedia performance to design engineering, board development and debugging, laboratory analysis and testing, medical monitoring. Following are the features of the Telum 3001 Graphics Adapter AdvancedMC:

  • Leading edge 128 MB ATI graphics processing unit (GPU)
  • Resolutions to 1,920 x 1,200
  • Dual display support
  • Integrates x8 PCI Express

These features make the Telum 3001 suitable for demanding video and still image applications such as design engineering, board development and debugging, laboratory analysis and testing, and medical environments such as monitoring where the requirement is to provide high levels of image detail and to do so on two screens for, for example, side by side comparison.

According to Rubin Dhillon, Communications Product Manager at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, until now, MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA customers have not had access to leading edge graphics capabilities, and that has limited the applications for which MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA can be used. The Telum 3001 broadens those potential applications. The Telum 3001 joins a growing family of GE Fanuc AdvancedMC products that enable customers to easily source all their MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA requirements in one place, optimising compatibility, interoperability and cost of ownership.

Customer choice is optimised by the Telum 3001’s support for Windows XP/Vista, Linux, Carrier Grade Linux, Solaris and VxWorks. At the heart of the Telum 3001 is a single silicon package that integrates the ATI M72-CSP128 GPU, 128MB of onboard memory and x8 PCI Express, maximising graphics throughput while minimising impact on the host processor, for optimum performance and at the same time minimising power consumption.

The M72 GPU leverages ATI’s extensive expertise in PC gaming, the standard by which graphics quality is judged and is capable of exceptional 2D, 3D and multimedia performance. Maximum resolutions supported by the Telum 3100 are 1920 x 1200 (DVI/digital) and 1600 x 1200 (VGA/analogue), allowing customers to generate high quality, detailed images, while maximum flexibility, compatibility and performance are provided by two DVI and two VGA connections, DirectX 10.0 compliance, OpenGL 2.0 support, MPEG 1/2/4 hardware acceleration and full speed 32-bit floating point processing.

The Telum 3001 has features such as PowerPlay balance performance and power for optimal energy efficiency, while CrossFireX increases graphics processing capability by supporting multiple graphics cards in one system operating in ganged mode. The Telum 3001 also provides support for legacy applications with its VESA Mode. DirectX 10.0 compliance is featured, as is OpenGL 2.0 support. MPEG 1/2/4 hardware acceleration and full speed 32-bit floating point processing per component optimise graphics processing.

The Telum 3001 includes an AMC.0 Module Management Controller (MMC) subsystem that is IPMI v2.0 compliant and initialises board level parameters, monitors board voltage and temperature conditions, maintains system status, and manages hot swap operation for high availability applications. A microcontroller is used as the IPMI intelligence and connects to the AdvancedMC management bus. The Telum 3001 is hot swap capable (assuming the operating system provides such support) and is field replaceable in accordance with AMC.0.
