Packing protein into dairy crisps

Supplier News

FONTERRA Co-operative Group has announced it will commence production of dairy protein crisps, which are increasingly used as an ingredient in the nutritional bar, snack foods and cereals markets.

Fonterra will produce natural dairy protein crisps with 80% protein content, without the need for any artificial additives.

Fonterra Innovation protein crisps business manager Anthony Lawler says consumers are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about the benefits of dairy protein.

“Dairy protein can assist in weight management and in sustaining energy and performance and, as a result, consumers today are looking for healthy and convenient food such as snacks, bars and cereals which are high in dairy protein,” Lawler said.

“Currently, the majority of protein crisps are going into high protein energy bars, but with the availability of higher dairy protein crisps, the “better-for-you” snack food market will increase dramatically and open up new opportunities for food manufacturers in marketing the benefits of dairy.”
