FLUKE Corporation is launching a new line of tools developed specifically for measurements and calibration in hazardous environments such as petrochemical plants, oil platforms and refineries, and other locations subject to risk of explosion.
These new instruments will comply with the latest European ATEX (ATmospheric EXplosibles, French for explosive atmospheres) regulations.
Effective July 1, 2003, the ATEX regulations will apply to all new products sold in Europe after that date and used in explosive environments.
All manufacturers offering electrical and electronic equipment for use in these environments must obtain ATEX certification for their products by July 1, 2003.
Fluke is anticipating this new directive by starting to introduce its ATEX compliant products, starting with the 707Ex loop calibrator. The 707Ex is the first product launched by Fluke to meet this new market need.
Fluke plans to introduce more ATEX-compliant products in the future to give users the assurance of a high standard of protection against risk of explosion (EX II 2 G EEX ia IIC T4, CENELEC Zones 1 and 2 - where hydrocarbons/gases may be present during normal or abnormal operation).
The European Union (EU) 94/9/EC directive is the relevant European legislation that applies in this area, and becomes law on July 1, 2003.
