Flowrox Pty Ltd presents the Deposition Watch, a new industrial device for imaging paraffin wax and asphaltene depositions in oil and gas pipelines. Flowrox is a world-leading supplier of heavy-duty industrial valves, pumps and instrumentation.

Designed for the oil and gas industry to effectively control and monitor depositions in pipelines, Flowrox Deposition Watch can potentially reduce paraffin deposits by as much as 0.25% of the global GDP.

Caused by the molecular substances in crude oil, paraffin wax builds up on the pipe wall along with asphaletene creating challenges for oil and gas companies as the deposits can reduce the fluid flow or block pipes and valves. These depositions also impact production and revenue in oil wells as they affect valves, pumps and pipelines, along with other pipeline components critical to the fluid control process.

Flowrox Deposition Watch is a predictive device, as opposed to available reactive solutions, and monitors pipelines and related flow process equipment affected by paraffin wax and asphaltene depositions, allowing operators to address deposition issues well before they reach critical levels that can cause downtime or costly damage.

Developed specifically for use in the oil and gas industry, the Flowrox Deposition Watch allows customers to generate real-time images of any depositions affecting a piping system without ever having to open up the pipeline and impede production.

Todd Loudin, President and CEO of North American Operations for Flowrox comments that the Flowrox Deposition Watch can model mathematically the deposition profiles and calculate the free volume in the pipe. These readings help operators make better decisions regarding addition of expensive chemicals for treatment of depositions or when to disassemble a pipeline for manual cleaning.

An unplanned shutdown caused by deposits can be catastrophic for the operation; to prevent its occurrence, engineers and operators tend to add chemicals in excess to cleanse depositions or schedule more physical cleanings of the pipeline than necessary.

Key features of the Flowrox Deposition Watch include electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) to create real time images of the inside of the piping and to detect the differences in permittivity of the various substances found in the piping system; and patented algorithm to create a 3D image of the process fluid in the piping and generate trend data as well as show free volume inside the pipe and the growth rate of the deposition growth over time.
