Precisely monitoring the position of pneumatic drives requires expensive, bulky mechanical devices which are sensitive to their environment and subject to wear and mechanical damage.
The new SMAT-8M position transmitter from Festo is installed, which is similar to an ordinary reed switch. With its compact design, the SMAT-8M position transmitter can be securely installed flush in the slot of grippers and compact cylinders where it is protected from mechanical damage. Its integrated 0V to 10V signal output means that there are no external signal processing accessories to take up further installation time or space.
The SMAT-8M position transmitter senses the movement of the magnetic piston to an accuracy of +/-0.1mm with no mechanical contact, so it is wear free and reliable. The transmitter’s detection range of up to 40mm ensures a free choice of switching points for applications such as gripping, clamping, pressing, part detection and measuring.
