The VZQA proportional media valve (EPDM diaphragm) from Festo has been available since May 2013 with certification considered important for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Well known for their strict hygiene requirements throughout the production process, food and pharmaceutical industries are particular about the requirements for components of machine and plant, which come directly into contact with foodstuffs. These components must necessarily have high corrosion resistance, not emit any chemical substances and ideally have optimised surfaces to facilitate cleaning.
The VZQA is a 2/2-way valve used to control flows of media. Featuring an open design, the valve has a shut-off function provided by a tubular pinch component made of elastomer. When the valve is pressurised with compressed air, the tubular pinch component closes and the flow of medium is completely shut off.
The valve can be used to provide a shut-off function with liquids, dust, solid material (granulates) and mixtures of materials. Examples of applications include pneumatic conveyor systems, dosing and weighing systems and powder-coating machines.
Major benefits of the VZQA proportional media valves include a design free of dead space, unrestricted through-passage that allows high flow rates and prevents the valve from clogging, as well as long service life.
The optimised tubing geometry of the VZQA valve ensures a service life three times longer than that of competitor products. The patented cartridge principle allows the diaphragm to be replaced easily without special tools, resulting in short maintenance times.
Compliance with FDA regulations regarding elastomers used can be certified either through a Food Contact Notification (FCN) certificate or a manufacturer's declaration of conformity in accordance with 21CFR 177.2600. The Festo VZQA valve has been tested appropriately and FDA conformity has been certified for the valve with an EPDM diaphragm.
