The CFMEU said it is disturbed about reports PPE is being stolen from the Perilya Broken Hill mine.
Safety boots and helmet lamps have reportedly gone missing from lockers at the mine in recent weeks, ABC reported.
CFMEU Broken Hill vice president Greg Braes said miners are usually supplied with safety equipment by their companies and doesn’t understand why anyone would take them.
"Whoever's pinching their boots it must be because they're too lazy to go down and get another pair or maybe their contractor won't pay for them, I'm not sure on that," he said.
"All I do know is that people take their boots off or put their gear in their lockers and when they go back there it's gone."
Braes said any union members who steal safety equipment are on their own.
"The union won't tolerate any thieving and when it comes down to personal safety equipment it's very serious, so if it turns out it's a union member or a contractor or a staff person up the mine, I don't particularly care who it is, I'm pretty bloody annoyed that anyone would take anyone's safety equipment," Braes said.
