In this new regular feature on Ferret.com.au , we look at a specific category of products and services, and discuss some of the latest and greatest innovations in that particular industry from the diverse range of mining, manufacturing and industrial businesses listed on the site.

According to a report commissioned by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., the global market for electronic components is tipped to reach US$183.9 billion by 2015. This considerable growth is primarily driven by factors such as increasing demand for consumer electronic goods, especially mobile communication devices, and growing penetration of electronic systems in automobiles.

Many of the electronics and components listed on Ferret.com.au are intended for end-user adoption into just such devices, though there is also a significant range of such products that are designed for use in manufacturing and other industrial processes at the testing, production and quality assurance level.

Fujikura lightweight fusion splicer now stocked by AFC Group

Manufactured by Fujikura, the FSM-12S fusion splicer is now available locally from AFC Group. Senior Product Manager at AFG Group Michael Scarano describes the splicer as one of the world's smallest, explaining that it was designed to meet an increased demand for smaller and more economical fusion splicers, driven by the continued growth in fibre optic communications and global deployment of FTTH.

It has a long life battery providing technicians with 100 splice and heat cycles and ensuring ultimate portability for technicians, and delivers an average single mode splice loss of 0.018dB.

AJ Distributors introduces Caddock's Type TN lab grade low TC precision film resistors

Stocked in Australia by AJ Distributors, Caddock’s Type TN lab grade low TC precision film resistors are specifically developed for use in 0°C to +70°C applications that require a low temperature coefficient and a high degree of precision.

They can be supplied in resistance ranges from 1 K to 1 Meg, and are ideal for lab grade applications that require higher voltage ratings (up to 1,400 volts) and power ratings (up to 0.75 Watt).

New Keystone miniature SMT test point for PCBs from NPA

Keystone Electronics Corp. has added a new miniature SMT test point to its product offering, distributed locally by NPA.

This 'mini-pad' SMT test point is designed to enable high-strength, test point-to-PCB bonding with a minimal footprint. Its low profile design also allows for a variety of gripping probes to replace wire-wrap posts and turret terminals.

NHP announces release of AmpCom networkable motor protection system
