Batching is a critical part of the manufacturing process in which raw materials are turned into finished products through an ordered set of procedures. Effective batch control is important because it ensures that your products, whether they are biscuits, breads or stapleare uniform and consistent.

Batch processes are generally used to produce a relatively low to intermediate quantity of product per year.

There are various options available to manufacturers when selecting a batching solution to optimise throughput and ensure this type of consistency.

For example, Active Weighing Solutions offers in-process or batch weighers which can be installed into a process line. They are ideal for controlling flow rat into a process, blending and for batch intake or out loading.

Or there is Batching System Software from United Engineering & Software. This may be customised for individual businesses.

In addition, the company offers support for wide variety of meters, indicators and plant configurations

Mettler-Toledo has detailed the benefits of a dedicated batch controller in its new white paper, entitled “Advanced Batch Control.”

According to the paper, a weighing system that accurately and reliably measures ingredients and transfers them to batches is a critical part of the manufacturing process, and it can be automated, manual, or a combination of both.

In addition the white paper notes that manufacturers can simplify batching by choosing a dedicated controller that combines both weighing and transferring functions within a single unit.

It says that a stand-alone batch solution with built-in industry control standards allows for modular production across multiple locations and plants. It also simplifies user interfaces and minimises operator training requirements.
