The Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference (AOG) was held in Perth, WA and attracted over 400 tertiary students.

The AOG joined forces with Australia's largest oil and gas employers and leading universities to overcome the skills shortage in resources sector.

Australasian Oil & Gas Careers day is there to promote and communicate forthcoming opportunities available in oil and gas and address the shortage of 36,000 tradespeople that is ahead of Australia's resource sector in 2015.

Maths, Engineering and Science students had the opportunity to learn about upcoming graduate programs, vacation programs and careers available with Woodside, ConocoPhillips, WorleyParsons, J P Kenny, John Holland, INPEZ, Subsea 7, GE Oil & Gas and Technip who are some Australia's largest gas and oil companies.

"The skills shortage provided a unique chance for students with the right skills and motivation to progress their careers," Terry Griffiths, Chairman of Perth SUT (Societry for Underwater Technology).

“The skills shortage extends beyond just the oil and gas industry. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines and careers involved in the offshore, subsea, naval and marine fields. They are all facing a demographic time-bomb where there are expected to be substantial numbers of skilled and experienced people retiring over the next few years,” Mr Griffiths.

Terry Griffiths was one of a host of high profile speakers at the event, which featured a range of presentations and face to face interactions between the students and industry leaders. Terry said he "hoped the event would help inspire up-coming thinkers, problem solvers, scientists and engineers to take up the challenge and pursue a career in oil and gas."

The event was supported by Woodside, ConocoPhillips, the Resource Channel, WorleyParsons, J P Kenny, John Holland, INPEX, Subsea 7, GE Oil & Gas, Technip, Saipem, the Society for Underwater Technology, Curtin University and the University of Western Australia.
