A new joint initiative between The Resource Channel and the Australian Gas Technology Conference & Exhibition (AGT) will enable oil and gas employers grappling with skills shortages to meet face-to-face with thousands of potential candidates.

Award-winning resource jobs website, The Resource Channel has partnered with AGT 2013 to host selected companies at the AGT Careers Advice Lounge, giving employers the chance to talk directly to jobseekers about their career opportunities and graduate and training programs.

According to Jody Elliott, Managing Director of The Resource Channel, they were inundated with job seekers across all levels and disciplines looking for information about careers and wanting to speak to employers at last year’s AGT. It therefore made sense to include employers on the stand this year and support their participation with extensive content on The Resource Channel website.

Six companies will get the opportunity to participate in the AGT Careers Advice Lounge. Up to three representatives from two companies will be invited to be on the stand for each day of the event. Participating companies will also be offered extensive advertising on The Resource Channel website to year end.

AGT Event Director, Bill Hare said it was important for the oil and gas industry to work together to address the shortfall of workers required to construct and operate the planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Australia. With Australia poised to become the world’s leading LNG exporter, the industry must attract the next generation of workers and effectively train and retain them to address the increasing skills shortage.

The gas technology event will also present a series of free seminars exploring career issues and opportunities in the oil and gas industry, with a particular focus on careers for women in the gas industry. The seminar program will include speakers from leading employers such as GE Oil & Gas, Bakers Hughes and Schlumberger, as well as Engineers Australia and the Resource Channel.

More than 100 exhibitors are also expected at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 1-3 July for the AGT Exhibition.
