Jack Pirie and Glen Harris met each other in 1961, when they were studying together in London.
Their second meeting was in 1967 in Australia and each determined to start a new life for themselves in Australia, decided to start their own company.
With a vision to form a company that would become one of Australia’s leading fan suppliers, Glen Harris set up office in his home in Ringwood Victoria with Jack Pirie with a small working capital of $600.00.
Their first step was to create a small income. Jack Pirie and Glen Harris managed to persuade three companies, Film Cooling Towers, HH Robertson and Trox Australia to advance them $500 per month to be offset against commission, once they began making some sales.
SECV and Telecom granted them credit from which they bought a telephone, telex machines and light. Another donation fetched them an electric Golf Ball typewriter. They named the company ‘Air and Noise Equipment’ and later changed it to Fantech .
After the initial sporadic growth, Fantech eventually grew into a viable business.
Fantech established a new office and warehouse in Darwin and having outgrown its current home in Mulgrave, Fantech is now moving operations to larger premises in South Dandenong.
