Intended mainly for use in the food processing and storage industries, air curtains help prevent insects and vermin entering processing plants and other buildings. They do this by emitting a high speed curtain of air which is strong enough to stop bugs passing through designated doorways or entrances.
Airspeed reduces proportionally to the distance from the fan outlet grill. Because the air curtains are belt driven, airspeed can be increased, if desired, to meet the highest industry standards.
As such, they are capable of exceeding the AQIS standards as set out in The Pest and Vermin Control Procedures.
The guidelines set out in this document apply to all export establishments registered under the Export Meat Orders and the Game, Poultry and Rabbit Meat Orders.
Like insect screening, self-closing doors, and flaps on chutes, air curtains are said to constitute a suitable physical barrier to the entry of vermin. When used in combination with other deterrents they can effectively solve the pest control issue.
The improved performance can be put down to a centrifugal barrel type fan impeller mounted directly above the outlet. This mounting position gives even stronger performance and coverage.
In addition, the casing is fabricated from 2.5mm mild steel plate with aluminium ‘eggcrate’ inlet/outlet grilles and the blower wheel is pulley driven to ensure that the motor power is fully utilised.
All fasteners and fixings are stainless steel. The inlet grill and the cover plate can be removed easily to ensure easy access for maintenance.
They are also available with a number of options, including:
- 3kW or 5.6kW Motors
- Stainless steel or galvanised casings
- IP56 hose proofing
- Heater elements may be incorporated to deliver warm air.
