FLIR launches world's first thermal imaging camera for iPhones

Supplier News

FLIR Systems Australia announces the availability of FLIR ONE, the world’s first thermal imaging camera for iPhones. With the FLIR ONE accessory, FLIR Systems brings thermal imaging technology for the first time into the consumer market.

The award-winning FLIR ONE is a one-of-its-kind lightweight thermal imaging accessory that transforms an iPhone 5 or 5s smartphone into a powerful thermal imager. When used with its iPhone app, FLIR ONE displays live infrared imagery that allows the user to see the world from a thermal perspective.

By detecting invisible heat energy, FLIR ONE allows the user to see and measure minute variances in temperature. FLIR ONE enables a host of practical solutions for users including identifying heat loss, energy inefficiency, and water leaks at home; observing wildlife day or night, surveying a campsite, or finding a lost pet; and securing the property with the ability to detect intruders at night and see through light fog and smoke. FLIR ONE is also useful for the creatively inclined as it allows the user to observe abstract patterns and create artistic images.

Andy Teich, President and CEO of FLIR Systems explains that FLIR ONE is the first in a new generation of affordable thermal imaging devices designed to inspire imaginative and innovative uses by consumers.

FLIR ONE detects a broad range of temperatures and has a spot temperature measurement display. Users can capture either photos or videos on their smartphones and share them via text, email, or social media through the FLIR ONE app, which will be available in the Apple App Store.

New FLIR ONE apps scheduled for release include FLIR ONE TimeLapse, which turns a series of thermal images into a seamless time-lapse video, revealing changes in temperature through time; FLIR ONE Paint to share fun and dramatic photos that selectively display colour and thermal elements; and FLIR ONE Panorama, which turns a series of contiguous imagery into a single panoramic image.

FLIR ONE weighs just 3.9 ounces, is engineered to add minimal size and weight, and is based on the iPhone form factor for a sleek presentation. Initially available in Space Gray with Silver and Gold versions to follow soon, its rechargeable battery allows up to two hours of continuous use.

Available for pre-order in the U.S. beginning July 23, 2014, FLIR ONE will also be sold in Apple Stores and on Apple.com in August.
