Johnson Controls has utilised the Lenze SMVector water resistant drivers, from FCR Motion Technology , in their range of power conveyors on a new car seat production line. Johnson Controls, automotive component manufacturers, creates innovative automotive interior to help provide driving comfort and safety for the operators.
The Lenze SMVector features a combination of flexibility and connectivity, which allows the drives to remain exposed for easy adjustment and maintenance access, while working seamlessly with the car seat production’s PLC control. The SMVector range of IP65 drives were installed in two of Johnson Controls’ factories, one in Germany and the other in Turkey.
In the car set production line, it was essential that the main Siemens S7 PLC was able to communicate with the drives via Profibus DP to provide easy factory integration. This was achieved simply as a Profibud DP comms module is a standard option on the SMVector drive, along with DeviceNet, RS-485, LECOM, CANopen, and Ethernet/IP.
Using a sealed IP65 protected drive allows the option of not requiring a secondary control cabinet, for the car seat production line, which provides protection from occasional atmospheric moisture and airborne debris. This feature allows the drive to be positioned locally to the motor it is driving. This then allows each conveyor module to be easily plugged into another without external cabinets coming with them, and further reducing wiring and installation time.
The Lenze SMVector range, from FCR Motion Technology, are available in 0.25kW to 2.2kW for single-phase supplies and up to 7.5kW for 3 phase. Standard operating modes include V/Hz operation, vector speed control and vector torque control.
