EUROTHERM iTools is a complete configuration and monitoring package for all Eurotherm Series 2000 controllers. It will edit, store and 'clone' complete controller configurations.
In addition, a set-point program editor and real time trend plots of the process values are provided.
iTools employs an OPC which uses ModBus to communicate with the controllers. The server connects to the controllers via serial communications, Ethernet or a telephone modem.
The OPC server may also be used by third party 'client 'software such as Wonderware and LabVIEW.
All of the current range of Eurotherm controllers and indicators can be configured using the same iTools package.
Using RS485 ModBus communications the iTools package can be utilised to configure and monitor up to 32 controllers, while network connectional allow iTools to also monitor the 5000 Series of data management systems at the same time.
iTools can configure all standard I/O and display parameters as well as configuring the advanced features such a setpoint profiling, as used in batch control.
The simple to use graphical format of the setpoint programmer allows for simple setup of the setpoint, segment time and type of profile (dwell, ramp or step), plus advanced features such as holdback (ensuring the segment criteria is met before advancing) and wait parameters.
The programmer also can be used to configure the digital event outputs for the advanced 2704 controller. ITools is also provided with a graphical interface for programming the logic, maths and analog functions of the 2704 controller.
Once configured, a controller's configuration program can be stored. In the event of damage to an existing unit or expansion, the cloned file can be simply uploaded to a new unit for fast installation, and minimum downtime.
If any parameter is changed during the service life, the original configuration can easily be uploaded to return the unit to the original specifications, or a new file with the revised configuration can be made.
One of the main features of the iTools package is the included datalogging program called OPCscope. This independent program allows for datalogging of any parameter in a controller or series of controllers on a ModBus network, plus 5000 Series recorders on the PC network.
The data can be viewed in realtime on the screen, with variable logging rates from 1 second to 1 month, while information is stored to a text file for simple import to third party programs such as Excel for data processing.
Suitable for batch monitoring and commissioning, OPCscope provides an inexpensive datalogging option for standard control equipment.
The iTools and OPCscope software can also be used to generate offline and simulated versions of the 2200 and 2400 series controllers, allowing testing and logging of simulations, useful for teaching aids as well as a development tool to test configuration.
OPCscope also provides a simple DDE interface to programs such as Excel for realtime data transfer.
For simple interfacing to SCADA packages such as Wonderware, CiTech and Iconics, an OPC driver is available with the OPEN version of the iTools package.
This driver allows OPC tags to be utilised, allowing greatly reduced development time for application writing, using the drag and drop tags.
