A new age care facility in Randwick has chosen to install the independence-oriented bathroom systems offered by the Pressalit Care range from Enware Australia in order to protect and care for the safety of both its residents and its nursing staff.
The new Sir Moses Montefiore Jewish Home in Randwick, which was designed by Flower and Samios Architects and is in its final stages of completion, has installed the Pressalit Care height adjustable shower seats and the specially contoured Dania toilet seat.
The internationally respected Danish range of bathroom care products, known for its “Keep Living” design philosophy, uses a neat-looking and architecturally designed track system which can be adjusted to the height and preferences of individual residents when required, or removed altogether if not needed, making it suitable for various degrees of mobility .
The attractive shower and toilet seats in the Pressalit Care range are robust with warm and slip-resistant contact surfaces comprised of materials such as two-component plastic and polyurethane foam.
Paul Myers of Flower and Samios Architects specified the use of 150 Pressalit Care height adjustable shower seats as well as Dania toilet seats for the Sir Moses Montefiore home. He says that the Pressalit Care range could protect the safety of both the residents and nursing staff.
“Both the residents of Sir Moses Montefiore and the nursing staff benefit from the use of Pressalit products. The height adjustable shower seat in particular improves the safety for the elderly, but is also beneficial for the OHS protection of the staff,” says Myers.
Flower and Samios Architects have over 20 years experience in designing buildings in the age care sector. Myers says that there have been several advantages in installing the Pressalit Care products.
“The Pressalit range is of high quality, is priced well, and looks neat without having an ‘institutional’ feel to it. The Montefiore home was designed to look and feel comfortable and more like a hotel than an age care facility, so the Pressalit products fit in well with the aesthetics of the rest of the building.”
The height adjustable shower seat is also good for varying degrees of independence as it can be easily removed from the wall track. “Some residents feel they are independent enough to go without the shower seat. They may feel that it has suggestions of disability, so they can easily remove it until a time comes when they may wish to use it,” says Myers.
The shower seat can be adjusted according to the exact requirements of an individual, making showering an experience that is both safe and comfortable. The height can be adjusted up to 340mm and when the seat is not in use it can be folded up, providing more freedom of movement.
The Dania toilet seat, which Myers says is well suited to the mature age market, was also installed in the bathrooms of Sir Moses Montefiore.
The ergonomically designed seat is well suited to many people and the fairly flat surface makes sideways transfer easy. The cover gives good back support when placed upright and the Dania also comes with an open front, making it suitable as a bidet seat with easy access for a handheld shower head.
Myers says that the Pressalit Care products have been a fine choice for the Sir Moses Montefiore Jewish home. “I’ve been impressed by the quality, appearance, cost and flexibility of the Pressalit Care range that I have seen. I would recommend the use of Pressalit Care products in future project,” he says.
Enware’s Care design Manager, Tim Knowles says the Pressalit Care range can provide support to people who are in need of assistance but do not wish to feel like they are living in an institution.
“Because of the flexibility and adaptability of the products, people at the Montefiore facility in Randwick can always have a choice as to how much assistance they require.
Pressalit Care products also have a subtle and neat appearance with good support features that look like something you would find in a home, not a hospital,” says Knowles.
The Pressalit Care system incorporates a complete range of bathroom products, including manually or electrically actuated adjustable basins and toilet brackets, raised toilet seats, adjustable change tables, support arms, seats, storage containers, modular shelves and baskets, handrails, curtain rails, shower rails, corridor rails, shower heads and tapware.
“Another beauty of the track system is that it is easy to install without structural modifications that are a cost and physical barrier to acceptance of some traditional fixed height bathroom products,” says Knowles.
