A BEDA lance tip igniter offers a highly comfortable way to ignite lance pipes – it is easy to use, even in very difficult situations and saves time on all working sites. It is available from Engineering Design & Systems Pty Ltd .
Lance tips can be lit manually or automatically with igniters. Lance tips can be lit manually with a match, a lighter or by rubbing the striking surface of a match box.
Automatically lighting a lance tip involves contact of the igniting head of the lance tip igniter with the object to be burnt, having a surface temperature of 220°C or more.
To operate a lance tip igniter open the oxygen hand valve a little in order to fill the lance pipe with oxygen (for easier start, air should be expelled out of the tube). Next, push the igniter into the lance pipe, then light the igniter.
Press the igniter with the lance pipe, slightly against the object to be burnt, in order to avoid the igniter being pushed away by the oxygen flow.
If it is a hot surface, this contact will automatically start the ignition, previous ignition is not necessary.
The head of the igniter should not be pressed too closely against the object, because the igniter could extinguish before it begins to work.
Lastly, open the oxygen hand valve slightly. After it begins sparking, increase oxygen slowly to 100%.
The lance pipe will continue burning until the oxygen supply is turned off.
