AN Enerpac SP Series lightweight 35-tonne punch and matching PUD 1100E economy electric pump has been installed at the Sydney production plant of Clive Wilson Switchgear.

The compact pump - 348mm high, weighing 16kg - can drive through mild steel up to 12.7mm thick, producing holes from 7.9mm up to 20.6mm in diameter.

Speed is enhanced by the PUD pump's two-stage operation, which uses the first stage to position the hydraulic plunger on the workpiece while the second stage is employed to do the work.

"It definitely saves time compared with the electric unit we used previously,” says Clive Wilson Switchgear purchasing officer Bob Hall.

"Not only does it do the job quicker, but also it has a better release system for stripping after switchgear bars have been punched."

While the standard SP series punch features a built-in handle for portability from job to job, the Clive Wilson Switchgear unit is a fixed installation with treadle actuation for operator convenience and safety.

Available with metric or US standard punch and die sets, the tool can handle round, square, and oblong shapes.

The long-life Enerpac single acting (spring return) cylinder incorporated into the SP 35 punch is a simple, durable design.

The tool's durable steel case keeps tools and dies together for easy carrying and neat storage. It also includes a CR 400 coupler and SPK 10 tool kit to remove and install the punch into the head.

The complementary PUD1100E pump weighs 11.8kg and has a built-in handle for portability. Its 230V ac 50/60Hz cycle universal motor will operate on voltages as low as 115 volts.

Capable of starting under full load, it is designed for intermittent cycle duty. Operator safety is enhanced by a 24V dc remote motor control with 3-metre lead.
