STIP-scan –one sensor for 8 parameters:Nitrate, SAC, COD, TOC, total solids, sludge volume, sludge index, turbidity

Function/Applications
STIP-scan is a spectroscopic sensor that measures wastewater with a light spectrum from 190 to 720 nm. The spectral measurement takes places after settling of the activated sludge or solids. By this, interferences are avoided. Parallel to the settling process, all parameters are measured continuously.

Differentiating Features

  • Measurement directly in the process: activated sludge, outlet and preflooder
  • Measurement cycle 1 to 10 minutes (depending on settling behavior)
  • Modular system for the parameters: - Module N (nitrate) - Module C (COD, SAC or TOC) - Module NC plus (plus UV/VIS spectrum)
  • Additional measurement of the sludge parameters (TS, SV, SI, turbidity)
  • No need for chemicals or reagents for measurement, minimum operational costs Self-cleaning and low maintenance
  • No need for external pumps or tubes

Brief description

The sensor collects the wastewater sample in a measuring cell and does not require any sample preparation. When installed in an aeration tank, the sensor determines the total solids concentration in the activated sludge and the value is displayed as TS in g/l. Additionally, the settling process is being monitored and calculated as sludge volume SV in ml/l. The sludge index is then calculated from the measured values of total solids and sludge volume and displayed as SI in ml/g. Parallel to the settling process, the directly measurable parameters nitrate (NO3), Spectral Absorption Coefficient (SAC) at 254 nm as well as the indirectly measurable parameters such as COD, TOC and turbidity are measured continuously. For the nitrate measurement, several wavelengths of the light spectrum are scanned. The spectral scan of nitrate separates it from carbon compounds that interfere with the measurement.
