THE recently launched i-Temp TMT162 temperature transmitter from Endress+Hauser is designed for use in Foundation Fieldbus (FF) networks. The high accuracy and high functionality of the TMT162, combined with FF technology, provides levels of user benefits not yet seen in the process instrumentation market.
Dual input channels are offered for connection of any combination of resistance thermometers (RTD), thermocouples (TC), resistance and voltage transmitters. This allows the device to be configured as a dual channel or temperature differential device with equal simplicity.
For redundant measurements it can offer a back up measurement channel as well as alerting the host system when one of the measurement channels is defective via the advanced diagnostic routines present on every TMT162 FF.
Included in this monitoring suite is the corrosion detection system that continuously evaluates the quality of the electrical connection to the temperature element(s) in the process.
The Foundation Fieldbus capability incorporated in the TMT162 unit includes hazardous area intrinsic safety approvals from FM, CSA, ATEX, with IECEx to follow, as well as agency-approved variant for Fieldbus technology called FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept).
FISCO compliance enables the connection of a higher number of devices in the hazardous area, assisting the plant engineer with a simplified installation, and less documentation needed to show the safety of the installation. The TMT162 also incorporates an advanced diagnostics transducer block for Foundation Fieldbus.
The luminescent display technology offered on the TMT162 FF allows users to clearly read the display at night or in brilliant sunshine. This display is also available for use as an FF display for any other device on the Fieldbus, extending the TMT162's functionality to that of a process field display.
Other features that distinguish the attractively-priced TMT162 from other similar transmitters in the market is its high measurement accuracy across the entire temperature range and excellent 2kV galvanic isolation between input and output. A sophisticated sensor monitoring system provides breakdown information, drift alarm and corrosion detection thus enabling quick maintenance intervention and preventing plant shut downs.
For process automation the TMT162 also incorporates function blocks supporting control in the field as well as control from a centralized process controller. The function blocks present on every TMT162 FF include analogue input, input selector, PID, advanced diagnostics, display transducer (turning the TMT162 FF into a Foundation Fieldbus generic display device).
The TMT162 FF is additionally prepared for Profibus PA connectivity via a simple switch setting. This feature expands the application range for the device and at the same time simplifies spare parts holdings for those organizations running Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus systems.
