THE Endress + Hauser Promag 53 range of electromagnetic flowmeters is fitted with a 4-line touch control illuminated optical readout display/programming control panel for easier operation and readability.

A quick setup feature and ‘fieldcheck’ in-situ validation also provide improved operational flexibility and safety.

For appropriate application matching, the flowmeters are designated 'W' for water and wastewater processing, 'P' for process measurement and 'H' for hygienic applications - a designation system which extends to the type of sensor fitted.

Models in the '53W' range are available with AS2129 flanges, the '53P' range is approved for hazardous areas and the '53H' range meets the global 3A hygiene standard.

Standard accuracy across the series is 0.2% and all models offer pulsating flow compensation to account for any negative flow components experienced, such as found in piston-pump applications.

For maximum site and product compatibility, the 53 Series offers a freely selectable range of I/O modules. Direct configuration is carried out through Profibus PA, Profibus DP or Foundation fieldbus systems.

To make the series compatible with analog technology, all models are equipped with the HART communication protocol.

The quick setup facility, accessed through the transmitter's touch control display panel, is standard across the range. Designed to reduce setup and commissioning times and programming errors, the facility also increases operational integrity in hazardous areas by eliminating the need to open the transmitter.

Four electrodes fitted as standard; two measuring electrodes, one earth (reference) electrode and one Empty Pipe Detection (EPD) electrode. The EPD electrode activates an alarm when pipe capacity falls below a pre-set limit.

An Electrode Cleaning Circuit (ECC) is available on all models. Effective at inhibiting build-up of conductive coating on the measuring and earth electrodes, the manufacturer claims the ECC is achieving 99% effectiveness.

For in-situ testing, re-setting and validation of the 53 Series flowmeters, the company has developed 'fieldcheck', a field measurement validation system.

Capable of recording and storing the test results for up to 50 measuring points, the system virtually eliminates the need to remove flowmeters for testing. With the support of intelligent check routines in the transmitter, the system can also perform sensor verification.

Standard nominal diameters range from 2mm to 2000mm. Process line connections include DIN, ANSI and AS2129 Table E flanges for the 'W' series; DIN and ANSI flanges on the 'P' series, and Weld-stub, flanges, Tri-Clamp and selected hygienic flanges on the 'H' series. Endress + Hauser 02 8877 7000.
