Emerson’s Fisher division to renovate and expand former manufacturing facility
The Fisher division of Emerson Process Management, a business of Emerson, has unveiled a $19 million renovation and expansion of one of its former manufacturing facilities in Marshalltown, Iowa, adjacent to the company’s main offices.
The project will create the Fisher Technology Development Center, which will be the industry’s large and advanced flow control research facility. The Center will be staffed by employees from the company’s current research and development facility located on Governor Road, with plans to add 15 R&D engineers. Construction is expected to begin in 2007 at the new downtown location, which formerly housed assembly operations for the Fisher division.
Construction of this facility will allow Fisher to continue to develop the innovative control valve technologies that help its customers maximise the performance of their plants.
On Monday, November 27, 2006, the Marshalltown City Council voted to approve $1.8 million in property tax incentives for the Fisher division. It is important to Fisher organisation that this significant investment in R&D is made in Marshalltown, where Fisher began. Fisher is grateful for the City of Marshalltown’s property tax incentives and for the Iowa Department of Economic Development’s Enterprise Zone tax incentives, as they have helped make the project a reality.
Fisher control valves play a key role in managing the flow of materials through process systems in such industries as power, refining, chemical, and oil and gas production. Established in Marshalltown in 1880, the Fisher division today is the world’s huge manufacturer of control valve products. Sales, manufacturing and service facilities are located worldwide.
Fisher has been making the valves that process manufacturers have been relying on for well over 100 years, and this expansion of Fisher’s R&D capabilities will enable it to broaden its global reach to better meet the needs of its customers.
