Emerson Process Management named Edison Awards finalist in two categories
The Emerson Innovation Center – Fisher Technology and the Fisher Control-Disk rotary valve have been named finalists for the internationally known 2011 Edison Best New Product Awards.
Symbolising the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Alva Edison, the Edison Awards inspire America’s drive to remain in the forefront of innovation, creativity and ingenuity in the global economy. The Edison Awards are granted under the aegis of the Thomas A. Edison Papers at Rutgers University, a globally recognised research network dedicated to the study of innovation and its application in the 21st century.
The Emerson Innovation Center has been recognised in the category of Living, Working and Learning Environments. The Fisher Control-Disk rotary valve is a finalist in the Applied Technology category.
Emerson Innovation Center
The Emerson Innovation Center is a highly specialised engineering testing facility and flow lab that opened in May 2010 to help customers tackle tough challenges facing process manufacturing and energy industries.
The flow lab enables valves to be tested in real-world plant conditions to ensure reliability, environmental compliance and safety before being installed at customer sites.
Fisher Control-Disk rotary valve
A finalist in the Applied Technology category at the Edison Awards, the Control-Disk rotary valve offers excellent throttling performance in applications that involve fast processes and varying pressure drops. The rotary valves are ideal for applications in the chemical, pulp and paper, and metals and mining industries.
According to Edison Awards Steering Committee chair Sarah Miller Caldicott, a great grandniece of Thomas Edison, this year’s Awards recognise a broad range of innovations including far-reaching products, services and technologies that impact daily life.
She adds that the Awards applaud forward-thinking innovations for which Thomas Edison remains internationally admired while appreciating the efforts of companies such as Emerson that continue his legacy of challenging conventional thinking.
The ballot of nominees for the Edison Best New Product Awards is judged on criteria such as Marketplace Innovation, Marketplace Success, Technological Innovation, Market Structure Innovation, Societal Impact, and Design Innovation by roughly 2,000 members of the not-for-profit Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG) comprising of America’s top marketing professionals and academics.
Terry Buzbee, President - Emerson Process Management, Fisher division comments that the recognition is clearly aligned with the company’s commitment to help their customers solve tough problems, while helping them run smarter plants that improve production quality, lower operations and maintenance costs, and enhance environmental performance and worker safety.
Emerson Process Management is part of Emerson, a global leader that provides innovative solutions for customers in industrial, commercial and consumer markets through its network power systems, process management systems, industrial automation systems, climate technologies, and tools and storage businesses.
