Eaton expands mining capabilities in Australia with its largest ever global acquisition

Supplier News

Power management company Eaton recently showcased its latest advanced solutions to Australian mining leaders at a dedicated mining technology event in Perth.

The Eaton Mining Tech Day event was organised to help companies increase cost/energy efficiency, maximise uptime and improve safety at every stage of the mining value chain.

Highlighting the increasing need to leverage the latest technologies in the Australian mining market, Eaton’s global mining segment director, Simon Meester pointed out that mine owners and operators in Australia, which possesses one of the richest mining environments in the world, are increasingly focused on optimising efficiency and maximising productivity by minimising downtime, all towards addressing issues such as rising costs and regulation.

With efficiency and effective asset utilisation being key objectives, Eaton offers dedicated solutions and proven technologies that can help make a mine safer and more profitable.

The Eaton Mining Tech Day event exhibited Eaton’s significantly expanded range of products for the first time since the acquisition of Cooper Industries at the end of 2012. The deal means that Eaton has one of the broadest portfolios of products, services and solutions in the electrical marketplace, expanding the company’s ability to better serve customers’ needs ranging from various energy saving technologies to cost effective structure and support systems.

Eaton also shared their expertise with Tech Day attendees on improving performance while reducing costs. Their recent success at Centennial Coal’s Clarence Colliery underground mine where Eaton implemented a safe and innovative solution of medium voltage switchgear at the site’s pit-bottom was one of many examples discussed at the Mining Tech Day.

Held at The Botanicals, Crown Perth Convention Centre, the Eaton Mining Tech Day included presentations and technology demonstrations of Eaton’s latest customised solutions focused on mining in Australia.

The Mining Technology Day is part of a series of events to reach out to customers and local partners, to facilitate very specific discussions on customers’ challenges and Eaton’s solutions to address the same.

Highlights of the Technology Day included representations from mining offerings such as Hydre-Mac radial piston motor, LifeSense hydraulic hose monitoring system, LED applications, arc flash/arc reduction maintenance solution, and arc-resistant switchgear and motor control.

Eaton also offers hydraulic hose replacement services to help mining customers maximise uptime. Given that 75 per cent of system failures are due to hydraulic contamination, Eaton’s onsite professional services can help miners keep their machines up and running without hurting productivity.

Eaton also offers a comprehensive service package for mining companies, including safety audit programs and hose condition monitoring systems.
