The company’s containers are used primarily by processors and packagers for foods such as soups, vegetables, fruits, meat, tomato-based products, coffee, seafood, adult nutritional drinks, pet foods and other miscellaneous food products, with several well-known manufacturer brands relying on the metal cans for the consistent delivery of high-quality, high-grade consumable goods.
A key component of the manufacturing process involves the cutting and shaping of metals, which requires the use of lubricants or coolant to keep the metal cool so that it can be shaped precisely. The coolant also picks up metal shavings, oils, and dirt that occur naturally.
The coolant is required to be filtered before returning it to the manufacturing line. The existing filtration system at the facility involved an antiquated paper filtering process, which was expensive, hard-to-maintain and time-consuming.
According to the quality control manager, paper costs alone totalled to about $5000 per month in addition to the considerable time and effort taken by the operator in changing the paper filters.
Eaton MCF 824-Series mechanically cleaned filtration systems were installed at the facility as an efficient solution for the lubricant cleaning process.
The filtration system features a cylindrical stainless steel housing that contains a cleanable, permanent filter screen. When unfiltered liquids flow from the top down and from the inside of the media toward the outside, the impurities are deposited on the interior surface of the filter screen with the clean fluid exiting through an outlet.
When the media requires cleaning, a spring loaded cleaning disc travels top to bottom inside the filter media, directing collected contaminants downward where they are concentrated in the purging chamber for easy expulsion.
The innovative, magnetically coupled driving technology that moves the cleaning disc without the need for shaft or drive external seals, adds additional appeal to the unique design.

The manager added that Eaton also came up with a better way of cleaning the MCF 824-Series filters, allowing the facility to extend the life of the filters to eight days instead of the original 4-5 days.
