ERNI, represented in Australia by Erntec , has added RJ45 connectors to its MaxJack range. The new single-port MaxJack has a straight design and integrated magnetic filter components. It is configured for IEEE 802.3-compliant applications such as Gigabit Ethernet or Power-over-Ethernet (PoE).
The connectors are aimed at high-speed telecommunications and data communications applications in data storage devices, personal computers, network printers, peripheral equipment and industrial applications. Magnetic components that would otherwise be surface-mounted on the printed circuit board (PCB) are integrated. This reduces interference and saves PCB space. The fully-shielded products can be customised to match specific designs. They are available for Ethernet data rates of 10/100 Base TX and 10/100/1000 Base T. Other options include LEDs and enhanced ESD protection.
The angled RJ45-compatible connectors from ERNI are based on a design that makes it possible to integrate the filter elements without changing the size of the jack housing. The straight version is also only slightly larger and it can be aligned on a grid. The compact dimensions of the components makes it possible to keep the circuit paths short and achieve very good signal integrity.
The MaxJack series complies with the IEEE802.3ab noise specifications. Return loss is specified at -3dB from 1MHz to 125MHz. This makes it possible to extend port distances beyond the 100m limit that is recommended by the IEEE. The connectors are available in single-port and multi-port versions in ganged and stacked configurations.
