The Smart Power Relays
The combination of several functions in one compact design offers many advantages when it comes down to reliability. The Smart Power Relays product line has now been expanded with the new ‘DICE’ version which can be used for on-board 12V DC and 24V DC supply systems.
With the combined functionality of ‘electronic relay plus overcurrent protection’, E-T-A’s E-1048-8Dx represents an attractive alternative to the usual concept of ‘electro-mechanical relay plus fuse’.
ApplicationThis is applicable both in the 12V DC range, e.g for caravans and motor yachts, and in the 24V DC range for utility vehicles and buses.
The advantages The advantages are particularly significant where contact deterioration due to repeated switching of inductive loads may be expected. With its integral power semiconductor, the Smart Power relay ensures a totally wear free switching function, insensitive to shock and vibration. This purely electronic relay in a cubic enclosure, measuring 30mm x 30mm (‘DICE’), fits into standard 4-pin sockets for automotive relays.
Current RatingsThe device is available in nine different current ratings, from 1A to 25A, and in two different versions. The ENTRY version offers a short-circuit proof switching output as well as the electronic relay function. The ENTRY-protect version provides additional over-current protection to ensure prompt disconnection in the event of an overload or short circuit.
The extremely low power consumption of the E-1048-8Dx is ideally suited to battery buffered electrical systems. The Smart Power Relay can even cope with extreme temperatures from -40°C to +85°C without any de-rating.
