Downer EDI has won $230 million in blasting contract extensions.

Through its subsidiary Downer Blasting Services (DBS) it has been awarded three year contract extensions with Yancoal, Sojitz Corporation, and Saracen Mineral Holdings, all of which are complete down the hole services.

These contracts are for  extensions at the Moolarben, Yarrabee, Ashton, and Duralie coal mines with Yancoal.

Since originally signing the first contracts with Yancoal in 2006, DBS has loaded more than 80 000 tonnes of explosives at its sites without a single lost time injury.

It will continue to work at Sojitz's Minerva mine and Saracen's Carosue Dam mine.

Downer chief Grant Fenn said these contract renewals demonstrated DBS' ability to build effective partnerships.

"This is the third renewal of some of our Yancoal and Sojitz contract and the second renewal of our Saracen contract," Fenn said.
