NEW ranges of advanced long-life components have been announced by Dotmar EPP for clarification systems and sedimentation tanks used by the water, waste water and industrial, mining and municipal recycling industries.
The non-metallic and metallic components - including the PlastiChain system - are engineered for easy installation and operational durability in applications including water treatment clarification, wastewater sludge scraping, and dissolved air flotation scum removal.
Dotmar EPP's non-metallic technology combines the company's own long-established national leadership in advanced thermoplastics engineering with expertise and capabilities gained through partnership with water and waste water specialists A3 Environmental.
The company's metallic system capabilities draws on in-house capabilities augmented recently by the acquisition of industry leaders such as sewage system specialists Northside Enviromech and materials handling specialists Malco Industrial Products.
Non-metallic technology now available through Dotmar EPP includes PlastiChain NCS 720S and PlastiChain NMH78 drive chains, which combine light weight, easy installation, economical cost, corrosion resistance and maintenance-free operation, says Dotmar EPP engineering manager Aldo Mostacci.
"Our non-metallic technology partnership brings under one roof nationally the capability to provide all accessories needed to make up complete clarification systems, including wear materials, scum mechanism, rail supports and advanced technologies, such as jaw clutches for two-tank drives employing only one motor unit," he says.
Such systems incorporate advanced components such as PlastiChain NCS 720S, which is moulded from fibreglass-reinforced nylon. Links are of one-piece construction for maximum strength, with self-locking pins press-fitted through one sidebar into the barrel hub, then into the other sidebar.
Flight attachment links are also moulded in one piece with the sidebars. PlastiChain NMH78 drive chains are also made with fibreglass reinforced Nylon, but with stainless steel pins.
Sprockets are wholly cast nylon (not polyethylene, which is used in some non-metallic systems, and has only a fraction of the strength of cast nylon). Cast nylon sprockets provide good contact surface with non-metallic chain. The system is lightweight and non-corrosive yet strong enough for heavy duty applications.
PlastiChain has been successfully employed worldwide in rectangular scraper PC4 shafts 5700mm wide, 3500mm deep and 1550mm long. NC720S chain lengths up to 1400 metres have been supplied to scraper replacement projects in Scandinavia.
