For the truck and transport industry, Donaldson Australasia has released a series of durable, high performance oil and air filters that greatly extend the time intervals between change outs while increasing engine life and overall performance.
Known as the Donaldson Endurance range of filters, these products are made using Donaldson advanced synthetic media technologies: Synteq (for oil and fuel) and Ultra-Web (for air).
Both Synteq and Ultra-Web media technologies deliver operating cost savings through higher efficiency, lower restriction, higher capacity, greater engine protection, and longer engine life.
Combining Donaldson Endurance air filters and oil filters allows maintenance intervals to be extended to the limit, without sacrificing engine longevity. Fuel economy is also improved due to better breathing through the less restrictive air filter.
Donaldson Endurance oil filters:
At the heart of Donaldson Endurance oil filters is the high-performance Synteq media. The strictly controlled processing of Synteq media results in fibres that have a controlled size and shape, and a significantly smaller fibre diameter.
This controlled processing allows Donaldson Endurance oil filters to deliver higher dirt holding capacity at the same pressure differential and higher efficiency compared to conventional cellulose filters. Synteq media also has better durability with usage.
Over the service life of a cellulose filter, hot oil will degrade the resins that bind the fibres. Synteq media technology uses a wire screen backing that is pleated with the media for superior strength. Donaldson's high grade gasket and grommet material also stays flexible and sealed during extended periods of hot oils with advanced additive packages.
Contaminant filtering and holding capacity is a major factor in determining when a filter needs to be changed. Donaldson Endurance oil filters have a contaminant holding capacity greater than conventional cellulose filters, and as dirt and other small contaminants are the cause of wear and reduced engine and equipment life, the filters' higher effectiveness in removing these small contaminants adds to increased engine life.
During the engine warm-up period, conventional filters restrict the flow of cold lubricating oil, thereby depriving the engine of essential lubrication. Donaldson Endurance oil filters have significantly lower restriction to allow the oil to flow through at a colder temperature. The additional filtering time decreases engine wear.
Donaldson Endurance air filters:
Equally important to increased engine life and maintenance savings are the Donaldson Endurance air filters. These incorporate Donaldson's Ultra-Web nanofibre technology which causes submicron contaminants to load on the surface rather than dispersing throughout the depth of the filter where there is less area for the air to flow.
This means that during on-highway applications where the contaminants are primarily submicron in size, Donaldson Endurance filters with Ultra-Web technology will cause less restriction than conventional filters with cellulose media. The smaller inter-fibre spaces of Ultra-Web nanofibre technology simply capture more contaminants.
In laboratory and field tests, Donaldson Endurance air filters provided better engine protection by allowing less contaminant to pass through than cellulose air filters. Endurance air filters hold up to five times more dirt than cellulose air filters, making them ideal for extended maintenance intervals for long-distance highway trucks.
