DOMINION Electronics has announced the first products in the new RabbitNet expansion line-up from Z-World: the RN1100 digital I/O and RN 1200 A/D expansion cards.

The cards are the first in a series of RabbitNet peripheral products designed for use with Z-World controllers such as the BL2500 Coyote and OP7200 eDisplay.

The RabbitNet expansion ports enable a modular and expandable embedded control system whose configuration of I/O cards can be tailored to a large variety of demanding real-time control, display, and data-acquisition applications.

A typical RabbitNet system consists of a master single-board computer and one or more peripheral cards. A high-performance Rabbit 3000 or Rabbit 2000 microprocessor on the master provides fast data processing, and the BL2500 master also provides the DCIN and +5V power for the peripheral cards.

The RabbitNet expansion mechanism is based on three-wire, full duplex technology, utilising low-cost, off-the-shelf Ethernet cables. Data is transmitted at 1Mb/s up to 10m.

When used with a compatible Z·World controller acting as a master, any RabbitNet product can be used to expand an existing system functionally or increase the distance from the master device to the peripheral points.

The cards mount easily on a 100mm DIN rail tray (100 × 90 × 17mm). They are capable of supporting up to 196 peripheral devices with multiple routers.

The cards are connected as slaves to the master by using version 8.01 or later of Z-World's Dynamic C software.

RN1100 features include:

* 24 protected and filtered digital inputs.

* 16 high-speed protected sinking/sourcing digital outputs.

* Four 10-bit analogue input channels.

* 100mm DIN rail tray mountable.

* RabbitNet interface: 1Mb/s using standard Ethernet cable, up to 10m away from master (RS422).

RN1200 features include:

* 8 single-ended 11-bit or 4 differential 12-bit analogue inputs.

* Software-controlled voltage ranges.

* 100mm DIN rail tray mountable.

* RabbitNet interface: 1Mb/s using standard Ethernet cable, up to 10m away from master (RS422).
