While a strong Australian dollar may be negatively affecting some exporters, Dematic continues to win multiple orders for projects in Asia, Europe and the USA. Exports include supplying structural design services and manufactured components for projects and are driven by Dematics internationally renowned engineering design team.
“While Dematic is one of the largest logistics systems suppliers in the world, few of our global associates have the extensive experience in storage system design that we do in Australia,” explained Dr Murray Clarke who heads the engineering design team.
Dr Clarke explains they have been designing and manufacturing storage systems for nearly 45 years through their Colby Storage Solutions business and are looked on as a global centre of excellence for storage system design within Dematic.
The team recently designed and engineered the storage rack systems for one of the largest Dematic Multishuttle automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) in Europe.
Dematic Multishuttle optimises productivity and reduces distribution costs by processing multiple orders concurrently using a single operator. It is the buffering and sequencing engine for integrated Goods-to-Person order fulfilment systems.
The retrieval system uses multishuttle carts that are capable of retrieving and putting away thousands of goods an hour rather than the cranes normally used by ASRS.
“It is pleasing to know that our manufacturing facility is world class and very competitive allowing us to compete internationally despite our dollar being at record highs," Dr Clarke said.
The team continue to invest in research and development to improve their storage systems and add value to the global Dematic brand. Their specialist storage system design skills should continue to expand Dematics export sales.
