Dematic past business year was marked by the global economic and financial crisis. Nevertheless, developments were better than expected. “We succeeded in achieving a result that, in view of the difficult market environment, we can be well satisfied with, said Global CFO Claus Mai. “Thanks to a balanced distribution of activities across different business sectors, regions and markets, Dematic is well placed to absorb the impact of currency and volume fluctuations. In these unstable economic conditions, both aspects are particularly beneficial. Moreover, the group is debt-free and has been profitable in the first five months of the year.”
In this new business year there is evidence of positive trends. Understandably, the investment climate continues to be hesitant. However decision makers are becoming increasingly confident and we are looking to the future with optimism“, says Mai. “We have good orders on hand and strong potential projects. Our service activities along with growth opportunities in markets such as Russia and China, are providing a solid foundation for the coming years.“
An example of a successful innovation is Dematic’s SAP-based warehouse management software SAP EWM MFS – a major advance in warehouse logistics. As a worldwide first, Dematic has equipped Switzerland’s SFS Unimarket AG with this Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) and Material Flow System (SAP MFS). SFS Unimarket is a supplier of fasteners, tools and hinge technology. In their central distribution centre processes can now be controlled directly using the standardized SAP EWM MFS software.
Dematic sees significant innovation potential in order fulfilment and will continue to focus R&D investment in this area. Efficient solutions in order assembly and split case picking are in high demand. New intelligent systems provide buffering and sequencing that enhances material flow. Similar principles ensure fast and error-free processing of individual orders. New “goods to person” solutions, ergonomic work stations and the use of light and voice based shuttle control systems are important aspects in this regard.
In addition to these innovations, new projects for large customers are progressing well. For example, Dematic is currently implementing an integrated logistics system for Tesco, Britain’s biggest supermarket chain, in Middlesbrough, England. This facility will organise and speed turnaround of imported goods. Dematic is also active on behalf of Dansk Supermarket Group, Denmark’s biggest retailer. Their new order assembly system integrates work flow, reduces logistics costs and delivers store friendly orders to retail outlets.
In Australia, Dematic has supplied an innovative, award winning order assembly solution for Coca-Cola Amatil. The solution is a world first and incorporates patented software that helps boost picking productivity and improve accuracy while lowering the overall cost of distribution.
“Dematic’s success illustrates the importance of knowledge, innovation and the ability to deliver a robust solution. With our unique mix of innovative products and solutions, superior planning and project competence we are confident that Dematic will grow and help our customers prosper now and into the future.“ said Mai
