DAVID Brown Engineering has added six new sizes to its Series J shaft mounted Sala speed reducer range designed for motor powers up to 600kW, which means the range can now satisfy the need for torque from 450Nm to 57,800Nm.
Fully interchangeable with older gear types and competitor units, the compact space-saving Series J gearboxes are precision-machined for high efficiency and long service life.
All gear teeth are case hardened and ground, and gear data is selected for minimum noise and vibration. Fixing for the Torque arm is integrated in the gear case, and the case is prepared for the mounting of vibration sensors.
Series J offers a choice of four different ratios - 5:1, 15:1, 20:1 and 25:1 - depending on size.
Ease of use and maintenance are key elements in the design of the Series J, with the cast iron gear case split for simple assembly and overhauling, and supplied ready for mounting of the V-belt cover.
A full range of accessories is available for the Series J gearboxes, but the most significant element is David Brown's exclusive KIBO tapered bushing which securely installs the gearbox but enables easy replacement of hollow shaft units.
KIBO eliminates the sledge hammers, cutting torches and angle grinders often required to separate hollow shaft gearboxes from the machine shaft, and instead the KIBO tapered shaft bushing requires only a hook wrench and a few simple operations.
It also retains a positive drive via a standard key, eliminating the slippage that can be associated with competitors' friction grip solutions.
