Datataker’s data loggers for national gymnasium in Beijing

Datataker’s data loggers for national gymnasium in Beijing
Application note:
The national gymnasium building structure monitoring system in China
Background:
The newly-constructed national gymnasium in Beijing, China will play a key role during the Olympic Games in 2008. The building structure has to maintain its rigidity and integrity during the entire designated life-span of the Gymnasium. Hence a permanent structure-monitoring scheme is required to be in place.
Customer requirements
- The gymnasium structure has a wide span of bi-directional spread wire truss frame construction. Due to a lack of engineering research and real application experience it is necessary to carry out permanent structural monitoring scheme
- The entire construction process will be monitored throughout and when in use
- During the games especially at match times the need for monitoring will be of major importance. Thus permanent monitoring of the structure’s integrity will provide data that can only otherwise be forecasted during design. Being able to view the load on the concrete at the time of use will ensure the integrity of the building for the future
Datataker solution
Equipment
- dataTaker DT615 data logger
- CEM (Channel Expansion Module)
- GSM module
Combined with
- Anchor load cell sensors
- Vibrating wire strain gauge sensors
As the monitoring scheme is to be permanently in place, the required data logger is expected to meet the entire life-span of the gymnasium. Following a rigorous evaluation process, dataTaker DT615 was selected. dataTaker DT615 delivers good programmability and reliability in a compact and solid body.
When coupled with dataTaker CEM, dataTaker DT615 offers easy expansion flexibilities, allowing a large number of different sensors connected to the logger, perfect for large-scale monitoring projects. dataTaker DT615’s flexible power supply mode ensures it’s guaranteed to operate with any power source available on-site anytime.
Furthermore, DT615 has made life much easier with remote monitoring and data transfer when coupled with GSM module. With simple configurations, DT615 can transfer the stored data to user’s PC as well as receive and execute new programs sent by the user via local GSM wireless network using dataTaker DeLogger Pro 4 software.
When specified threshold is reached, it can send alerts to the user’s mobile phone via SMS (Short Messaging Service). DT615 can even accept commands sent from user’s mobile phone via SMS, offering more controllability for remote monitoring.
Datataker China has further enhanced the already-powerful products by integrating DT615 data logger, CEM and GPS module into their DTCL-6152C enclosure that has transformed the entire system to a solid Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).
It has been proved to be a good solution that offers the robustness required to sustain the harsh weather conditions over the next decades and versatilities for real-time equipment management, data exchange and remote monitoring.
The supplied dataTaker software is used in conjunction with special-designed programs for this project.
The monitoring dataTaker software has delivered:
- An intuitive and highly flexible interface that allow easy switch between the main and sub-interfaces
- Remote monitoring and calculation of stresses factor in the gymnasium
- Data exchange over GSM wireless network
- Data can be interpreted in graphs, including time-data curve, X/Y coordinate curve, analogue graph, histogram etc
- Data can be saved as a database. Ability to search historical data, use Excel or other type of report form directly.
- When specified limits are exceeded alert information is reported to host alarms that activate sounds and lights simultaneously
- User and password management. Setup according to different user privileges, ensuring the system security
- Printing system information management supports real time printing, timed print, alarm information etc
- Both hardware and software suitable for future expansion
Natural life and stability of system:
The dataTaker data logger has high stability in harsh environments with operating temperature from -45° to 70°C.
Other applications
- Structural monitoring
- Cable stated structures
